‘Kind and caring’ Ed Gregson has been nominated for going above and beyond to help a student with special educational needs and disabilities.
‘He has voluntarily given hours and hours of his free time going over and above in helping her by doing extra teaching sessions and catch-up with her, ultimately contributing in no small way to her successes in her studies, resilience and positivity in life in general,’ said his nominator for the Teacher of the Year award, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Mr Gregson has been teaching ‘on-and-off, mostly on’ at the Sixth Form Centre since 1997 after being a student there himself in the eighties.
Now he is head of film and media studies.
‘I never left school really,’ he laughed.
‘You meet some amazing young people, really quite remarkable people.’
‘Mr Gregson genuinely cares about the students, which is both a rare and refreshing thing, and is obvious to the students and parents alike,’ his nominator continued.
‘His teaching talents and personality make his classes both fun and very productive, always challenging and encouraging the students to do their very best and aim high, improving their confidence and self-belief with his “can do” positive attitude and guidance.
‘I believe he should get the recognition that he so rightly deserves, and on a personal level let him know how grateful we are to him for his kindness and unwavering support this year.’
