‘Our daughter was diagnosed being delayed in speech and we were concerned as to how she would manage starting school. We explained that her pre-school has taught the children to “sign along” and from day one, Mrs Tiplady did everything to support Arabelle,’ said her nominator Chantelle Gibbs.
‘Mrs Tiplady had her sit at the front of the class and brought people in from Speech & Language Therapy in to help the children communicate with each other.’
All of this has allowed Arabelle to be fully included in the classroom.
‘Our daughter has progressed so much and was even excited to show us the new signs that she had learnt each day at school.
‘She now chats our ears off and her speech is so clear.
‘We can’t thank Mrs Tiplady enough for all of her support.’
Charlotte has been teaching at Amherst Primary School ever since she came back to the island 12 years ago.
After starting out in Year 1, she now teaches Reception.
‘They come in so tiny – I love watching them change as the years go by,’ she said. She watched the nominator’s daughter carefully throughout the years.
‘I’m honoured that she’s decided I’m worthy of this nomination – it’s not something you expect to be nominated for.
'I enjoy what I do.’
