Amanda Gray has been nominated for the Angel of the Year

Almost a decade ago, Amanda Gray had a vision for when she moved to the island to help open Boots Opticians in Guernsey, and now her care and support of patients has been recognised with an 

Angel of the Year nomination.

A long-time client, who wishes to remain anonymous, said Amanda has been ‘instrumental’ in saving their sight after finding a rare cancerous growth in the back of their eye.

‘I’ve always appreciated her caring approach to her work – you always sense Amanda takes time to ensure every customer is dealt with thoroughly, professionally and always with a smile,’ they said.

‘Amanda’s care and diligence came to the fore when I noticed an issue with my vision [and] she recognised I had a detached retina, requiring urgent medical attention – within hours, I was in front of the consultant ophthalmologist where a scan showed the underlying cause was a choroidal melanoma.’

Throughout the patient’s recovery journey, Amanda made sure to personally check in on their condition for which the nominator can’t thank her enough.

‘In nominating Amanda, I also hope to help highlight the importance of regular eye examinations.’
