Dr Silvana McCaffrey has been nominated for the Angel of the Year award

EVEN though Dr Silvana McCaffrey has only been in Guernsey for 18 months, her work as an out-of-hours doctor has been recognised by patients.

Dr McCaffrey moved to the island in December 2022 following 28 years in the NHS, with the hope of solidifying the idea that when surgeries close, the out-of-hours team are there primarily to care for the people of Guernsey.

This focus has led to Silvana’s Angel of the Year nomination, with Hannah Edmonds feeling that she was there when no one else was.

‘Since October 2023, my boyfriend has had numerous health issues and it’s been hard to get anyone to take him seriously,’ Hannah said.

‘Dr McCaffrey went above and beyond when we saw her in A&E – she instantly gave him pain relief and diagnosed him really fast as well.’

In addition to the initial consultation, Hannah commented that Dr McCaffrey phoned up the following day to check up.

‘During such a stressful time, it was wonderful to be listened to and taken seriously.’
