Abigail Baudains has been nominated for Carer of the Year

‘Very caring’ Abigail Baudains has been nominated by one of her residents, John Barnes, at Saumarez Park Manor.

‘He kept that quiet’ she said, surprised, upon learning it was Mr Barnes who put her forward. 

They have grown to know each other over the past two years.

‘It’s not always the easiest,’ she said of her job.

As a carer, Abigail is responsible for residents’ medication, personal care, meals, washing and bathing.

Abigail has been working as a carer since 2021, towards the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Care homes were especially vulnerable during the pandemic, and Abigail spent many days in the hot summer wearing PPE, which could quickly make conditions miserable.

In spite of all the difficulties, she continues to take incredible pride in her job.

‘No day is the same, I can tell you that,’ she said.

‘You get to know the residents so well. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty shocked.’
