‘THE voluntary bus drivers and escorts at the Russels Day Centre do an amazing and essential role,’ said Ellen Hughes, on behalf of the Le Friec family, who nominated them.
‘They helped our mum and many others to attend the Russels Day Centre. They would also take her home and make sure she was safe before leaving. It gave Mum the chance to meet up with her friends and have company instead of being stuck at home. They really deserve to be recognised.’
The centre is a social club for the elderly which runs activities such as hairdressing, manicures and pedicures, going to the library, social games and crafts. It is a place for the elderly to get out and have fun filling their days with activities alongside other people, providing opportunities that might otherwise not have been available.
Apart from management, all the staff are voluntary, and the centre could not operate without them.
