Angel of the Year: Alex Hawkins-Drew

ALEX HAWKINS-DREW has been nominated for the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year award due to her ‘vital’ role in the vaccination of islanders.

A nominator, who wished to remain anonymous, described how Alex has led the local vaccination programme.

‘Months before the first vaccines were even given, she was leading the team, which was drawing up how the local vaccine drive would work.

‘That hard work clearly paid off, with positive feedback from the public about the smooth-running system.’

The nominator said that Alex has overseen the whole vaccination programme and should be recognised for her hard work.

‘It is clear that the local vaccine drive has been a team effort, from the phone handlers booking appointments to the medical professionals administering the jabs.

Mrs Hawkins-Drew has overseen all of this, in what must have been a busy, exhausting year, filled with challenges. Yet, it has run like a well-oiled machine.

‘More than 95,000 doses have been given and more than 80% of the adult population are now fully vaccinated.

‘I think few islanders will realise the huge amount of work going on behind the scenes to make this happen and Mrs Hawkins-Drew has been a vital part of that.’
