CARER of the Year highlights those who give their time to look after and provide support for those who need it.
Sophie Veron, a family support worker at St Sampson’s High School, is one of those who has given comfort to secondary students for the past couple of years and has been recognised with a nomination for this year’s Pride of Guernsey. The recognition comes after Sophie worked with students to create ‘positivity and activity walls’ in her office to inspire people ahead of the summer holidays.
‘Miss Veron has been my rock for the past two years at school – I have suffered with my mental health and not wanting to go to class, but Miss Veron has supported me and found ways to overcome my anxiety and want to learn,’ said her nominator.
‘Miss Veron has made the school so much more comfortable.’
