When Sally Deakin moved to Guernsey from the UK in January last year without knowing anyone, she had no idea that a wonderful friend would be waiting just next door.
‘My neighbour, and now friend, Nadine, has been the most caring and supportive neighbour and the biggest welcome to Guernsey I could have hoped for,’ said her nominator Sally Deakin.
‘I moved here with my two dogs and didn’t know a single person on the island before arriving.
‘Nadine has always checked in on me, providing food when I have had to work evenings and weekends doing additional hours, and always including me in family events to make me feel at home.’
Nadine also offered her support when Sally’s mother had to undergo an emergency heart operation, and when her dog died unexpectedly during a routine operation.
‘Nadine and her family represent everything I love about Guernsey. They are caring, supportive and they have taken me on as one of their own.
‘My move here and overall experience of Guernsey and island life just wouldn’t have been the same without Nadine.’
