‘AN ALL-INCLUSIVE voice for our community,’ Charlie Cox has been at the centre of pioneering work for local sexual assault support provision and has seen her nominated for a Pride of Guernsey award.
Since March 2023 she has been manager of Guernsey’s first Sexual Assault Referral Centre, which officially opened its doors at Willow House on 1 January 2024.
‘It was definitely something where there was a gap in provision over here and we know it’s especially difficult to discuss these issues in Guernsey because it’s so small. Before Sarc was set up the only other option was to go to the police,’ said Charlie.
The centre has 10 crisis workers who manage a 24/7 helpline alongside eight forensic examiners who can take evidence, with the property being designed to avoid having a clinical feel.
People who use the service can also be provided with emergency contraception, other screenings and referrals to other services that may be of use.
‘She’s made a long-lasting change and difference in all that she does, Charlie’s care, compassion and dedication has changed and saved lives,’ said her nominator.
