Following a three-year period of tireless work to raise awareness on women’s safety Poppy Murray has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero.
In 2021 she founded the Be Lads campaign which aims to start discussions between men about women’s safety when walking alone without vilifying men, as well as launching SafetyNet Guernsey to fight against drink spiking.
Miss Murray’s anti-spiking campaign saw her distribute 4,500 eco-friendly reusable drink covers around the island.
‘Her efforts have made a real difference to our island and she is an inspiring example that one person really can make a difference,’ said her nominator Bonny Murray.
Not only raising awareness locally, Miss Murray’s Be Lads campaign was also picked up by the Chelsea FC Foundation as well as police forces, schools and businesses across the UK.
‘I never imagined how far the Be Lads Campaign and SafetyNet Guernsey would go and I’m so grateful for all the support I have been given,’ she said.
‘I really believe we all have a responsibility to help keep each other safe, especially in a small community like ours, and I am proud to have been able to play a role in this.’
