The Ivy Trust celebrated a decade of raising awareness and providing support as a stillbirth bereavement charity in late 2023 and now founder Shelley Samson is being recognised for her voluntary work as a nominee for Bailiwick Community Hero.
Shelley initially created the charity alongside her husband Colin, and fellow trustee Jayne White, after losing their daughter Ivy in April 2012.
According to nominator Heidi Billien, Shelley is truly an ‘amazing lady’.
‘Shelley never gives up and is always there for anyone in their time of need,’ she said.
‘The Ivy Garden has been set up on the grounds of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital – a place for heaven’s angels to be remembered and visited. Shelley is an amazing lady and The Ivy Trust is an amazing charity.’
In addition to being the first point of contact for parents who have experienced a death of a baby, Shelley works full time and said it was a 'really amazing feeling’ to be recognised for something she works ‘every waking hour’ for.
