From Janette Tardif’s volunteering efforts at Adult Disability Service, caring for her son who has autism and helping deliver one of her grandchildren at home, she deserves to be recognised as Grandparent of the Year, according to her nominator, daughter Kaitlin, who says she is ‘the most caring, friendly and helpful person I know.’
‘She is always there for her family and friends – she held my hand through 20-plus hours of labour with my first daughter, Robin, and has been the most amazing granny ever since,’ Kaitlin said.
This can be shown through Kaitlin’s second pregnancy when delivery plans went askew.
‘The plan was for my mum to look after my two-year-old while I was in hospital. The labour progressed extremely quickly and while trying to make it out the front door, my waters broke.
‘Without any hesitation, Mum got me back in the house, kept an eye on Robin, instructed my fiance to call the emergency services and delivered my daughter right there in the lounge all within five minutes.’
‘The way she handled the whole situation was incredible and I am so grateful that I had her by my side.’
