WITH all eyes on Great Britain as they prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics, a young fencer is coming up through the ranks as 16-year-old Oakley Francart has been put in the BF Athlete Development Programme for future competitions.
This team selection forms just one part of Oakley’s nomination for the Young Achiever of the Year award, in addition to his 13th-place ranking in the GB ratings last season and his
Leon Paul competitions wins.
‘He has been competing on the European circuit and he finished seventh in the Britain Youth Championships under 18,’ said Oakley’s nominator.
‘He also helps coaching the young fencers at the Sarnia Swords Club as he loves helping out and giving back – he is well-liked and respected by fencers and parents.’
Oakley started to fence at the age of eight and has managed to balance his passion for the sport alongside his work for A-Levels.
‘He has been Guernsey Island Champion for the last four years, and, at age 15, he competed for Guernsey in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in cadets and juniors.’
