One name that has been frequently in the golf headlines in the past 12 months is that of Conor McKenna, following a superb year for the teenager which he is still enjoying.
Not only is he the first player to win the Junior Island Championship and Men’s Island Championship in the same year, but he also is the lowest handicapped player in Guernsey, at plus-3.
His hard work and ensuing results form part of his nomination from the Royal Guernsey Golf Club.
Conor was the highest point scorer in the inter-island match in September and he holds three out of the four domestic major championships after winning the 72-hole stroke play, just two weeks after winning the Men’s Championship.
He is also the holder of the Le Riche and Tradesman trophies that he won at the end of last year.
While his local success has been impressive, he has also been noted in the UK as he was the first Guernsey player in recent years to make it through the Men’s Hampshire Championship qualifying, and went on to reach the quarter-finals.
