Maria and Shane Cosgrove have been nominated for the Parents of the Year award

Maria and Shane are incredible parents to two daughters, and grandparents to four young grandchildren.

‘In the last fourteen months I was diagnosed with stage three cancer, and they have gone above and beyond,’ said Krista Doggett, their nominator and daughter.

‘My parents have always been incredible, but the last year they deserve the biggest thank you,’ said Claudia North, their other daughter and second nominator. 

Both Shane and Maria work full-time yet have given all their effort into helping both their daughters’ children. 

Krista’s first six rounds of chemotherapy made her incredibly sick, and Maria had to take care of both, or at least one of Krista’s daughters every day for seven months.

Shane takes Krista’s oldest daughter to school once a week and they both continue to help with washing up, having the girls to sleep and simply helping when needed. 

‘We would have been lost this last year without their help and support,’ said Krista.

Maria and Shane have come to appointments when needed, and have taken holidays from work to help instead of going away.

Krista has two and half weeks left of chemotherapy and hopes to be cancer free very soon.
