For years, Katie Powis has been passionate about advocating for children with additional needs, and now, her work as inclusion LSA at Castel School has been recognised with a nomination for Pride of Guernsey.
The ‘absolute star’ has been put forward by Elia and Ciara Shaw in light of Katie going above and beyond for the pair of them.
‘She has helped me and my daughter in ways that no one else could,’ Elia said.
‘Mrs Powis is there to support all children whether it be emotional needs, autism, anxiety and my daughter needing the support whilst I navigate the journey of incurable cancer.’
Not only has Katie provided one-to-one support for the Year 6 student but also helped outside of school hours.
‘She came along to the hospital not that long ago which is out of her job remit but my daughter fell off her bike and I was a nervous wreck – I will always be grateful for all that she has done to help not only my daughter but me too.’
‘Mrs Powis lights up the room and is just truly one of a kind and a very gifted lady – we will both miss her a lot.’
