AT THE age of 85 Terry Jordan has recently jumped into the deep end in overcoming a lifelong fear and has come out on top.
As a child he nearly drowned and had not been back in water until he was 82, when he decided he wanted to be able to swim with his wife, who is a keen swimmer.
‘That first lesson he could hardly get in the water and was so frightened he was visibly shaking, with great courage Terry has persisted and overcome his fears,’ said nominator Susie Gallienne.
‘At the age of 85 he can now confidently duck under water, float and can swim 25 metres, a length of Beau Sejour pool, on both his front and his back.’
Terry added that while it was extremely nerve-racking to start, he has risen above his fear.
‘I went to a keep-fit class at first and then when I went in the pool for the first time it was very difficult, but I thoroughly enjoy it now,’ he said.
