In a full circle moment, Dan O’Brien, who used to represent Guernsey as a junior golf player, now volunteers his time to helping the junior team at Royal Guernsey Golf Club as well as the Island Juniors.
His passion for the sport has been recognised with a nomination for the Pride of Guernsey Sports Volunteer of the Year, a concept he never expected as he said he does it ‘simply’ because he loves golf so much.
His nominator feels his devotion to the juniors as their manager deserves ‘respect and recognition’.
‘Dan has given up so much time for junior and men’s golf through various ways. He has sponsored the men’s team with kit, set up events, training sessions and competitions to help the development of players and does things for us even when he is not asked.’
‘He is a kind soul and deserves this award more than anyone as he needs the recognition and respect for what he does for the juniors and Guernsey golf as a whole.’
