NO MATTER rain or shine, you can often find the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers hard at work maintaining natural environments around the Bailiwick.
The group, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021, has a taskforce of around 45 people who tend to land owned by the National Trust and the States, among others.
‘They should be recognised for their dedication,’ the group’s nominator said.
‘These are a group of people who give up their time on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in all weathers, clearing non-native plant to enable the native plant to flourish.’
In addition to conservation efforts in Guernsey, GCV have also volunteered in Alderney and are planning their first trip to Sark in the next coming months.
Operations director Angela Salmon said the nomination for Sustainability Hero of the Year was ‘totally unexpected’ but she was ‘just thrilled’ for the team of volunteers.
