Darcey Hodgson

Darcey Hodgson has been nominated for the Young Achiever of the Year award, which is sponsored by St Pierre Park.

The 15-year-old athlete has enjoyed an outstanding season on the track, both locally and in the UK, and at the end of June became the second fastest ever local female over 800m.

Despite her young age she also represented Guernsey in the 2023 Island Games.

‘Darcey Hodgson might have been our youngest individual medallist,’ her nominator said, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Darcey won silver in the 800m and gold in the 4x400m relay in the Games.

‘A fantastic achievement for a young athlete,’ her nominator said.

‘I’m shocked, I didn’t expect it,’ she said when told of her nomination.

Darcey trains three to four times a week and loves her friendly training group.

This year she has competed at major events across the UK, such as the English Schools Championships in Birmingham and the Hampshire Championships in Portsmouth.

But ‘the Island Games was one of the best experiences,’ Darcey said.

‘I’m excited to push myself more, run faster and open up more opportunities.’

Darcey has achieved so much for her young age and her success in the Island Games is evidence of her talent and potential.

This success ‘will hopefully motivate her to go on to bigger and better things in the future.’ her nominator said.
