A TUTOR at St Sampson’s High’s Communication and Autism Service Base has been nominated for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award.

Daniella Lowe was nominated by the Bougourd family, for whom Andrea Bougourd said they could not thank her enough for the dedication, effort and encouragement she has given her son over the past five years.

‘Our son Jack started secondary school barely able to write and a long way behind his peers in most subjects and with very little confidence in his abilities, having struggled all the way through primary school, partly due to dyslexia and some problems related to autism,’ she said.

‘Jack’s confidence has grown no end, he has already achieved three GCSEs, including a C in English – something we would have never thought possible.

‘He has come such a long way and it is mostly thanks to Dani and the team from the Communication and Autism Service Base at St Sampson’s.’

She added that it was not only Jack who she had helped.

‘I’m sure a number of other students and parents would also agree that she goes well above and beyond in helping the students, not just academically but to change the way they think about themselves and others,’ she said.

‘She has taught them so much more than just the curriculum and has become a friend as well as a teacher. We can never thank her and the team enough.’
