THE MEMBERS of the Youth Commission’s Young Carers Youth Group have been nominated for the Carer of the Year Award, sponsored by Specsavers.
The group is open to those under the age of 18 who live with a family member with additional wants and needs, for example if they are ill, have a disability, or misuse drugs or alcohol.
‘This amazing group of young people portray such maturity, empathy and kindness to anyone who meets them,’ said youth worker Nicole Hubert, who nominated the Young Carers for the award.
‘As young carers, they hold personal responsibilities at home which often go unnoticed.
‘This youth group serves as much-needed respite for them and gives them a chance to support each other.’
She said members of the group took up extra responsibilities at home.
‘Each individual has a caring responsibility, which many outsiders would not guess.
‘These young people are truly remarkable to work with and always brighten up your week with their fabulous personalities.
‘I would love for this group to get the recognition they deserve and hopefully show Guernsey a smaller community which they
may not have known existed.’
