LOCAL organisation Girls Night In Guernsey has been nominated for this year’s Overcoming Adversity award, sponsored by Close Finance.
‘The work and dedication of the Girls Night In Guernsey team have enabled me and many others to feel more comfortable on nights out and have given us a space to share our experiences and concerns,’ an anonymous nominator said.
‘It is such a positive thing to know that safety has been prioritised and that so many women have been given a voice by this amazing platform.’
Formed in November following the Sarah Everard tragedy, Girls Night In has prioritised increasing safety on nights out and raising awareness of sexual abuse, harassment and drink spiking.
‘They organised a boycott of clubs and pubs in Town to raise awareness and put pressure on venues to put prevention and support measures in place,’ the nominator added.
‘Since then, multiple businesses have ordered StopTopps for drinks and have introduced safe words and numbers for anyone who needs them.’
A spokeswoman from Girls Night In said they hoped to give a voice to those who had experienced sexual abuse, harassment and drink spiking.
‘Guernsey isn’t immune to this as a problem,’ she said.
‘We are hugely grateful for the amount of support we continue to receive – we can make differences.’
