‘THE SKY is the limit’ for Ellie Mills, 14, who has been nominated for the Close Finance-sponsored Overcoming Adversity award after creating her own business.
Ellie has been diagnosed with syncope, which means she has low blood pressure that could cause her to faint at any time.
Her ongoing fear of fainting resulted in extreme anxiety and agoraphobia, so she stays at home and is home-schooled.
‘Despite severe anxiety, Ellie has followed her dream of creating her own business, which has proved extremely successful,’ an anonymous nominator said.
‘As her business has grown, so has her confidence.’
She formed Wax Melts 4 U just after her 12th birthday in January 2020 and has now extended her range to bath products and air fresheners.
‘From building her own website to liaising with UK brand ambassadors and suppliers, the sky is the limit for Ellie,’ the nominator said.
‘She has shown that anything is possible and has remained creative and determined, no matter what.’
Ellie’s mum Anna founded the Guernsey Small Business Market to give her a platform and Ellie now hopes to go there and sell her products herself.
Her Instagram account has more than 800 followers, she has brand ambassadors in the UK, and her products are stocked in The Original Alternative.
