ADRIAN SARCHET, also known as the ‘Sea Donkey’, has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion award, which is sponsored by RBC.
‘This wonderful man has raised money to help disabled people to be able to swim in the open water,’ said his nominator Rachael Green.
Mr Sarchet made his name as a local swimming legend by becoming just the 21st person to complete the Oceans Seven challenge, which he did to raise money for cancer research.
He also plans to swim laps of the Ladies’ Pool at La Vallette for 24 hours straight this weekend, starting at 3pm on Saturday, with a target distance of 41 miles.
It will be in an effort to raise funds for new wheelchair and reduced mobility access to the Ladies’ Pool and associated facilities at the bathing pools.
‘He helps people to improve their fitness and physical health, and also raises awareness about mental health and the open water benefits, which can help so many people and does now on a daily basis.’
‘This extremely selfless and charitable man is a hero.’
