THE Clean Earth Trust have been nominated for Sustainability Hero of the Year, sponsored by Aon.
Established in 2018 by Andrew Munro, the trust was formed following the success of its #pickitupguernsey campaign.
Since its inception the team have launched a number of initiatives such as weekly beach cleans, a repair cafe, and an annual ‘Sustain Ability’ challenge.
The team is made up of one employee and 33 volunteers.
The nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, put them forward for the award for the variety of work that they do for the benefit of the island.
They said: ‘Their weekly beach cleans not only help to keep our beautiful bays clear of rubbish and plastics but they also do surveys of the beaches and log what is found on them, which helps to monitor waste across the Bailiwick and understand more about the effects of pollution.
‘Another of their initiatives is the repair cafe, where you can go along and meet volunteers who can help you fix goods from clothing to household appliances and thus continue to battle the war on waste.
‘They also make you think about how you can make changes to help the environment.’
