ALISON BIRKETT, head of drama at the Guernsey Grammar School, has been nominated for the Arts Contribution of the Year award, sponsored by Moonpig.
Her nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: ‘In a very difficult year for education where delivering even the basics has been a struggle, many creative arts in schools that are seen as “extras” have not happened.
‘On top of her regular workload, Alison went above and beyond to devise, rehearse and produce a life-affirming school production of Nativity! The Musical last December, even though it was highly likely that it would be cancelled.
‘The production, involving all school year groups, gave students and their families hope in the darkest days of the winter.
‘She is currently working on an upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors for November, once again going above and beyond expectations to give students an experience that they cannot find elsewhere.’
