MARIA PAGE has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year award, which is sponsored by HSBC.
Miss Page has been teaching at Blanchelande College for two years after receiving her teacher training qualification in 2020.
She was put forward by former student Emma Lenfestey, who said: ‘She taught me psychology in my GCSE years at Blanchelande and made sure that our lessons were fun but equally informative.
‘Our homework was always fun and I always felt that I could go to her for anything whether it be one of my problems or if I just needed help with the workload.
‘She also made sure that we could have study lessons near to our GCSEs and that we were all prepared to take the exams.
‘She also came up with study tips and ways to remember the information we needed.’
Miss Page said: ‘I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, nothing else appealed to me.
‘I think what I love most is sharing my passion and enthusiasm for my subject.
‘Equally, I’m learning all the time, not just how to teach but about the subject too.
‘Students ask the most insightful and sometimes challenging questions, which keeps me on my toes.
‘I have been extremely lucky to work at a fantastic school where there is a real community feel and ethos of respect.
‘The students are so hard working and engaged.
‘It’s a real pleasure getting to spend my days with them.’
