VOLUNTEER Doreen Homer ‘has a caring heart for all’ and has been nominated for this year’s DWA-sponsored Customer Service of the Year award.
Doreen, 84, has been volunteering for 30 years, the last 16 of which have been spent at the Cheshire Home charity shop.
‘Not only do you get bargains but she supports anyone in need and is ready with a cup of tea and a listening ear,’ said nominator Carol Priaulx, who has been a customer for years.
‘So many people are sat in there and come in and out and she’s so nice – she’s so giving and always has been.’
Even on her days off, Mrs Homer can be found giving away homemade cakes for free to businesses on the Bridge, she added.
Unsold clothes are also sent at her own cost to Ukraine or to help homeless people in London.
‘She has the biggest heart. I nominate her with pride.’
Mrs Homer said she enjoyed working in the shop.
‘The shop is a little community – we are a real team and it’s lovely.
‘The reason is to give the Cheshire Home the support and a real boost.’
