‘The word stalwart was made for Bas Brehaut,’ according to his nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The long-standing volunteer has also recently had the bar in the Sylvans
clubhouse named after him in recognition of his dedication to the football club.
‘He has been involved with Sylvans Sports Club since 1953 and has been on the club committee for nearly 60 years.
‘When he was bar steward, many would go for a drink in the club at the end of games for the welcome he gave them.
‘He was in the club’s tug o’ war team for 11 years, including in 1977 when they competed in the world championships in Jersey.
‘He has done just about every task for the club - from cleaning, to taking gate money at matches, organising euchre drives, and opening the clubhouse for Darby and Joan afternoons.’
