SAM ASHPLANT, 19, has been nominated for the Sure-sponsored Sports Volunteer of the Year award for his efforts as a coach at St Martin’s AC.
Sam was nominated by long-time teammate Harry Jones, who said: ‘He has worked extremely hard as a minis coach. He has been coaching at St Martin’s for many years now and is extremely committed to his role.’
Sam has recently taken up a new post at the club, too – he was appointed as the new second division head coach and will also help out John Peace and Leon Meakin with the Priaulx League team.
‘He has taken on a new job as a senior coach at Saints, which demonstrates his great character as he is just 19 years old and will be working with players who are double his age to try and improve them and ensure they continue to enjoy their experience at Saints.
‘This new role will mean he has to give up multiple evenings a week, which reiterates his dedicated persona.
He has also worked behind the bar at the clubhouse, once again displaying his constant willingness to help out the club he loves,’ added Sam’s nominator.
