ALDERNEY resident Kirsty Capazario has been nominated for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award for her long-standing support for a friend who lives on the same estate.
Kirsty was nominated by another neighbour and friend, Mimi House, who described her as ‘more than worthy of the award’.
Mimi said Kirsty supported her neighbour, Claire, through the ‘unimaginable nightmare’ of her husband’s death and being left to raise their young daughter.
‘Initially just a neighbour, but now a friend for life is how I would describe the relationship between Kirsty and Claire,’ Mimi said. ‘Now 18 months after the incident, there are not many days when Kirsty doesn’t walk pass my kitchen window to pop across to Claire’s house.
‘Everyone knows everyone in Alderney. We are all a close-knit community and the loss hit us all. Not only does Kirsty have her own family to look after, she always makes sure that Claire is not far behind.
‘Kirsty has taken her to appointments and food shops – she has really taken Claire under her wing.
‘It is bitter-sweet in terms of how their friendship blossomed, but at least there is a positive from a negative.’
