‘OUTSTANDING’ is the care provided by Emilia Fernandes of Chateau du Village Nursing Home, according to Jane Ogier, who had nominated her for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year award.
‘The staff at Chateau are so caring,’ she said.
‘They help the residents with their everyday needs and ensure they are totally looked after. Nothing is too much for them.
‘They gave up their own freedom to provide care through Covid and do an excellent job that should be recognised.’
During the pandemic, staff were only allowed to go between their place of residence and the care home.
‘The owners of the care home used to buy their groceries for them so they didn’t even go to the shops.
‘They had to be really careful who they got into contact with as they could have easily passed Covid on to the residents if not.
‘They did give up a lot. It really shows their dedication.’
Jane’s mother, who died very recently, had lived at the home for many years.
‘The staff were so upset because it was like someone from their own family had passed away.
‘They really do need an award to recognise the magnificent work they do.
‘A massive thank you to Emilia, who provided outstanding care, as did Rachel, Ze, Topsy, Mina, Patrick, Greta and all.’
