KAREN SMITH has been described as what Cheryl Sims would consider ‘the epitome of a true neighbour’. She said that Karen is ‘a thoughtful and kind person who has looked out for us’ so has nominated her for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award.

Cheryl describes how Karen has always been there for her and her family, offering genuine kindness and support.

‘I am an independent person but, in times of ill-health or lockdowns, Karen has always checked up on me.

‘I value her for being there and know she will do anything to help. I feel so safe knowing that there is someone down the road who I can rely on 100%.’

Cheryl is so thankful for everything that her neighbour has done for her and, by nominating Karen for the award, hopes that this can be recognised.

‘People like Karen need to be recognised – they are not intrusive, do not make grand sweeping gestures but are genuine in a very kind and quiet way. I suspect that she also looks out for others – we are so lucky and I am truly grateful.

Please give Karen the recognition she deserves.’
