KATEY CHESHIRE has been nominated for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award.

Katey started her role as academic administrator at The Ladies’ College Sixth Form in September last year.

Nominator Jasmine Morgan, a sixth form student at the college, said: ‘She made us feel so welcome, always having time for a quick catch-up chat. She really cares about our wellbeing. This was especially evident during the lockdown this year, during which she would regularly send us messages asking how we were. She is a ray of sunshine and such a lovely person to have around school. I can’t imagine sixth form without her.’

Katey said: ‘It’s great fun getting to know the sixth form students. They were all incredibly welcoming and supportive to me when I started.’

Katey mentioned that during lockdown staff tried to maintain the level of interaction with the students, even though it was inevitably difficult not being able to continue face to face teaching.

‘It was unusual for everybody. Looking after the students’ mental health was key during lockdown,’ she said.

Katey’s role means she supports the head of the sixth form as well as getting to know and supporting the students.
