STAFF of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital’s Giffard Ward have been nominated for the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year award for their exceptional care of one family.

While the hospital as a whole was recognised as brilliant, it was the personal connection made when under the care of Giffard Ward which nominators Roy, Maddie and Vicki Sarre were thankful for.

They said ‘all of the angels of the PEH are just marvellous. The whole of Guernsey are indebted to our island’s medical profession. We wanted to highlight the virtue and value of nurses generally, but the Giffard Ward stands out for us as a family in particular.’

The Sarres thanked the nurses for caring for them so well.

‘It is said a lot, but nothing was too much trouble. We were only in there a short while, but they have been very good to us as a family. We wanted to thank them and sincerely wish them every success, in the same way we made it through a successful surgery with their help.’

A special mention was given to one Giffard Ward nurse.

‘Abi is one of the kindest, most cheerful, smiling and caring nurses and she has impressed so many patients by her gentleness, patience and efficiency.’

The family are thrilled with the excellence of the hospital as a whole.

‘Over five years we three as a family, Maddie, Vicki and Roy, have experienced wonderful care, as hundreds surely will have. The unique Giffard Ward with sister Abi are greatly appreciated. They have a special place in the hearts of the people they encounter. Thank you.’
