CAROLINE DOREY has been nominated for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award for being made of ‘pure kindness’.

Niamh Hocking met Ms Dorey through their children’s school and despite moving to the island only last year, Ms Hocking said she felt the support she had received from her neighbour had been second to none.

‘We don’t currently have a big support network over here, but Caroline has gone above and beyond to help us settle in,’ she said.

‘My eldest son has complicated health issues and my three year old is non-verbal and autistic – Caroline has always been there to offer help with taking them to school when one has been unwell, doing our shopping if they are unable to go out and being a constant support to myself.’

She added that during lockdown, Ms Dorey had been an especially big help.

‘During the pandemic my eldest son received information that he needed to shield,’ she continued.

‘As their father is an A&E nurse, he had to move out during this time, which left me at home with four children unable to go anywhere.

‘Caroline, despite having her own children, did all of our grocery shopping for us and continued daily to check whether we needed anything.

‘I don’t know how we would have got through the last few months without her.’

Ms Dorey also helps many others.

‘It isn’t just us,’ added Ms Hocking.

‘Caroline continuously supports and helps everyone around her.

‘She simply is made of pure kindness and should be recognised for the support she gives others.’
