A DETERMINED young boxer has been nominated for this year’s Pride of Guernsey Young Achiever award.

The St Pierre Park-sponsored award aims to give Guernsey’s youth a well-deserved pat on the back for hard work on something they should be proud of.

Luke Robert has been boxing at the Amalgamated Boxing Club since he was 10 years old.

‘Having trained extremely hard and through sheer determination, Luke had his first bout when he was 12 and has continued to train hard since then,’ Amanda Hobart from the boxing club said in her nomination.

Now aged 17, Luke also assists with training the younger boxers and donates his own time to give back to the sport.

‘He is a fantastic role model to the upcoming juniors and always has time to help them and give them words of encouragement,’ Amanda said.

Luke also has a great rapport with the juniors and coaches and has helped out with fundraising events to support the club. These range from fun runs to fundraising publicly with bucket collections.
