Teacher of the year: Sophie Dorey

BEING a wonderful teacher who made lockdown and home-schooling fun and achievable is the reason why a Year 1 teacher at Acorn House Junior School has been nominated for Pride of Guernsey. Sophie Dorey was put forward for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award by parent Susie Crowder.

She said she was an extraordinary educator who deserved to be recognised.

‘Her commitment to her students, including my six-year-old son William Crowder, was of an exceptional standard, especially during lockdown,’ she said.

‘The above and beyond home-schooling guidance and support offered to both students and parents was excellent.

‘Miss Dorey’s care and investment of time was warmly welcomed by the entire class, but especially by us.

‘A wonderful teacher who made lockdown and home-schooling fun and achievable.’
