Pride of Guernsey: Dania Lloyd

AFTER not only overcoming challenges against all the odds, Dania Lloyd selflessly devotes her life to others despite dealing with the day-to-day struggles of living with disability.

AFTER not only overcoming challenges against all the odds, Dania Lloyd selflessly devotes her life to others despite dealing with the day-to-day struggles of living with disability.

She was nominated by Greg Archer for the Close Finance-sponsored Overcoming Adversity Award, who said: ‘Dania is a brave and selfless person who has come through incredible odds after surviving a head injury from a riding accident. She spent seven weeks in a coma and was told she wouldn’t be able to walk or talk ever again.’

Dania has come through huge adversity and likened her recovery to ‘like being reborn’. She now both walks and talks – and cares for her mother full time.

Greg said: ‘It is a challenge for Dania as she is not always herself but in her words it is “payback time” after all her mum did for her.’

Dania also endeavours to help as many people as she can through charities linked to her disability; she is a prominent member of Headway Guernsey and the Guernsey Disability Alliance.

Greg summarised Dania: ‘Her selflessness and giving nature are greatly admirable and are what these wonderful awards are all about.’
