LIFE-SAVING action taken by Steve Ford, Lynette Symons and Paul Hancock has been recognised through a nomination for the Cherry Godfrey-sponsored Emergency Hero of the Year Award.

The three nominees performed CPR on nominator Rick Denton in February at Les Cotils after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

‘My heart stopped beating and I collapsed, I was unresponsive and would have died within minutes if no one had come forward to help,’ Rick said.

‘Fortunately I collapsed by Lynette and Paul, who had both recently completed a refresher course in CPR with St John Ambulance – their actions were exemplary.’

Paul and Lynette checked Rick’s airways were clear and began giving rescue breaths while Steve Ford, St John training manager and based at Les Cotils, received their call for help.

‘Thanks to the willingness of Lynette, Paul and Steve to ‘have a go’ and thanks to their expertise, I was revived within three minutes – as a result I have no serious long-term damage.

‘These are brilliant and brave people who through their actions saved my life.’
