RECOGNISED for her ongoing love and support while her granddaughter was being treated for leukemia in the UK, Christina Bacon has been nominated for the Grandparent of the Year Award.

Christina’s nomination was put forward by her granddaughter Gracie Whitwam for the Co-operative Society-sponsored award.

‘My Nannie has supported my Mummy while I have been away for almost eighteen months,’ Gracie said, ‘My journey has been having rounds of chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant.

‘Nannie always spoke sense and helped Daddy and Oliver plan visits; she was always positive throughout while she worked in Guernsey full time.’

Christina would fly to the UK on several occasions to support Gracie’s mum.

‘Nannie came over and surprised Mummy and made her smile.

‘She was the level headed person when we were in crisis and has always been there and stayed positive, she helped us stay strong ourselves when it was tough.’
