TWO ‘inspiring people’ have been nominated for Carer of the Year.

Emily Nuttall, 25, has put forward Janina Almeida, who she has known since she was nine years old, and Mel Edwards for the Specsavers-sponsored award.

‘I am inspired every single day by the Guernsey Mobility, Let’s Go charity founders and the rest of the coaching team,’ she said.

‘I’m inspired by how Janina and Mel have set up a group to encourage those with physical disabilities to be active, as well as to feel accepted, encouraged and included in physical activity.

‘They also have a disability, so for them, to encourage others to get active is really inspiring.

‘Being a volunteer coach, all of us as a team help to encourage schoolchildren to understand the importance of accepting those with disabilities and working to help raise awareness of this and supporting them to take part.

‘They are a credit. I am inspired by both of them, the rest of the coaching team and inspired by the other members that regardless of your disabilities you can still achieve amazing things and live life to the full, which is hugely inspiring and important to see.’
