‘SHE has an amazing heart’ is how Gillian Finnie describes teacher Deborah Setters, whom she has nominated for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year Award.

Mrs Setters is based at Vauvert Primary School as a special educational needs coordinator, as well as working at the women’s refuge and being involved in the Streetlife Pastors, a team of volunteers from churches across the island helping to create a peaceful, safe environment that is free from aggression and crime at the weekend by listening, talking to and helping people between the hours of 11pm and 3am.

‘Deborah is an amazing person,’ said Mrs Finnie in her nomination.

‘As well as her role as SENCO teacher at Vauvert School and working at the Women’s Refuge, she is fully involved in the Streetlife Pastors, where she can be quite often seen to be on the streets of Guernsey at the weekend making sure people are safe, giving water and flip flops to people in need.

‘She is very humble about everything she is involved in. I think now is her time to get fully recognised within the Guernsey community.’
