Jennie Lintell said she met Maria after having a stroke and she has seen her regularly ever since.
‘She was one of the ladies who looked after me,’ she said.
‘She visits me at least once a month.
‘She’s the one who’s always been there. I can just rely on her.’
She added that on occasions Maria has visited her when she is not on duty.
‘If she says she is going to come, she will come. She’s always willing to do anything I ask her to do, but always goes that little bit extra.
‘She doesn’t just look at my health, but she’ll do things in the house that I can’t do but which I know is not part of her job.
‘She’s very understanding and compassionate.
‘I love her dearly. She really deserves this award.’
