Pride of Guernsey: Sally Holton

THE caring nature and life-saving actions of Sally Holton have been recognised through her nomination for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year Award by Pete Burtenshaw.

Pete has nominated Sally for her concern for his twin sister Ann Burtenshaw, who works at Iceland Le Bouet, where Sally is manager.
Sally took action on the morning of 28 February when Ann, a hard-working member of the team, did not arrive for work.
Due to Sally’s worry, she located Ann’s address and found the staff member collapsed on the floor as a result of a bleed to the brain.
The nominator took action by phoning the emergency services.
‘My sister had collapsed at home some 13 hours before,’ said Mr Burtenshaw. ‘Her condition at that time was critical and she suffered two further severe strokes.
‘If it was not for Sally’s concerns and going beyond the call of duty, my sister would not be alive today.’
Ann was flown to Southampton General Hospital.
‘Her actions deserve some form of recognition,’ said Pete, ‘The family owe Sally a deep debt of gratitude.’
Since then, Ann has begun the long road of rehabilitation, which Pete has said is going extremely well.
‘The management, staff and customers at Iceland Le Bouet have been so supportive in wishing their popular team member and my twin a full recovery,’ said Pete,
‘If there is one person who deserves some form of recognition, Sally does.’
