Pride of Guernsey: 'An inspirational mentor'

A MODEST woman, Margaret McDonaugh has worked tirelessly out of the spotlight to inspire dozens of youngsters to take up acting and has been nominated for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year award.

‘I nominate her for an outstanding contribution to young artists through 40 years of Guernsey Youth Theatre [now Guernsey Youth and Community Theatre],’ said local-born former member and now theatre producer, director and writer Giuliano Crispini.

‘Maggie has devoted many years of Friday night workshops, summer schools and theatre trips, all to promote, foster and facilitate drama and theatre arts for young people and the wider community.’

As part of its four-month UK tour, Giuliano brought his Occupation-set play Lotty’s War to Guernsey in May/June this year to much critical and public acclaim.

Having worked in all aspects of the theatre, Giuliano knows what it means to have such an inspirational mentor.

‘Maggie has welcomed and encouraged people of all ages who wish to participate both on and off stage,’ he said.

Margaret was made an MBE in 2006 for services to youth theatre.
