Sara Woolland

Sara Woolland has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer award, sponsored by Sure.

Sara has been put forward for her work within the Guernsey Tennis Club throughout the year and particularly during the Island Games.

Her nominator, John Treleven, Island Games tennis referee and organiser, has said how Sara was ‘vital to tennis’ during the Games week.

‘Sara went above and beyond. As you walked into the tennis centre there was a display of past Guernsey tennis medals and tracksuits and on the other side an order-of-play board with homemade magnetic flags next to each player for visitors to find the matches they wanted to see.

‘In the bar were cushions with all the islands’ flags on which she made herself.

‘We also ran previously unrewarded consolation events, now known as plates, as Sara raided her crockery and decorated eight plates with the island flags and a puffin logo with the particular event.

‘Sara created an amazing atmosphere for all and made the week very special.

‘It’s quite incredible what she did,’ he said.

Sara said how she ‘loved the Games week and how it encapsulated all the best aspects of sport’.

‘I wanted to make it a special event for all athletes.’
