‘ALWAYS HELPFUL’ David Hadlington has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award, sponsored by Sure.

Amanda Hobart, Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club head female coach, nominated him for his work.

‘He works tirelessly behind the scenes ensuring the smooth running of the club. He is the club’s backbone and without him we wouldn’t be able to carry on.’

David has been club president for around 15 years and both he and Amanda are on the club’s board. Both positions are voluntary.

‘As the president, David represents us. He’s very passionate about boxing. He runs shows to raise money for the club and other charities and keeps up the maintenance.

‘He also does smaller but still important jobs like setting up the ring for competitions. He’s always there if we need him.’

David said he was surprised by his nomination.

‘He doesn’t like publicity but people need to know about his work. He doesn’t get any respect for what he does because no one understands what he puts into it,’ Amanda said.

‘We just wanted him to know how much he is appreciated.’
