STAFF at the Autism Hub would be worthy winners of the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year award, according to Helen Garland.

Her sister, Michelle, moved into a bungalow within the hub at Le Vieux Jardin, Vale, in December and the full time care she has received has been excellent.

‘Michelle has autism, severe learning disabilities and agoraphobia,’ said Ms Garland.

‘She is non verbal, unable to read or write and therefore finds communicating very challenging.

‘The expertise the staff have in autism provides a calming environment for Michelle.’

Staff are incredibly patient, caring, encouraging and supportive towards Michelle. New goals are set for her to achieve each week to progressively build her confidence to leave her bungalow each day.

They support Michelle 24 hours a day to be able to live independently away from her family home.

Ms Garland said staff provided her and other family members with regular updates on how her sister was during lockdown.
